The Government of Assam has officially released the Special Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 notification for Lower Primary (Classes I–V) and Upper Primary (Classes VI–VIII) levels. This Special Assam TET 2026 is exclusively conducted for Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and Hmar medium candidates to address the shortage of Language-1 teachers in elementary schools across the state.
Online applications will be invited through the official portal from 07 January 2026.

Purpose of Special Assam TET 2026
This Special TET is conducted under Section 23 of the RTE Act, 2009 and follows NCTE guidelines. Qualified candidates will become eligible to participate in future teacher recruitment processes in Assam, subject to fulfillment of other academic and professional requirements.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidate must be a permanent resident of Assam
- Must fulfill NCTE-prescribed academic and professional qualifications
Minimum Qualification
🎓For Lower Primary TET (Classes I–V)
- Senior Secondary (50%) + 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education, OR
- Senior Secondary (50%) + 4-year B.El.Ed, OR
- Senior Secondary (50%) + 2-year Diploma in Special Education, OR
- Graduation + 2-year D.El.Ed
🎓For Upper Primary TET (Classes VI–VIII)
- Graduation + 2-year D.El.Ed, OR
- Graduation (50%) + B.Ed, OR
- Post Graduation (55%) + Integrated B.Ed-M.Ed, OR
- Senior Secondary (50%) + 4-year B.El.Ed, OR
- Senior Secondary (50%) + 4-year B.A./B.Sc. Ed, OR
- Graduation (50%) + 1-year B.Ed (Special Education)
🔹 Note: Minimum percentage criteria will not apply to candidates admitted to B.Ed/B.El.Ed before 29 July 2011.
Relaxation in Marks
5% relaxation in academic marks for SC/ST/OBC/MOBC/PWD
Minimum 40% disability required for PWD candidates (with valid certificate)

Duration of Exam
- 2½ Hours (150 Minutes) for each paper

SC/ST/OBC/MOBC/PWD:
- 55% overall (83/150)
- 50% in Language-I (15/30)
